Moonee Ponds Club Membership

Below is our class list for 2017. Classes fill up very quickly, so please book in as soon as you can. Our Club membership is $30.00 per year, this entitles you to a 10% store discount on haberdashery, fabrics & machine accessories. Club Day is held on the 4th Thursday of the month from 1.00pm – 3.00pm. We love to see your projects in our Show n’ Tell, be entertained by our guest speaker & enjoy some afternoon tea & a chat.

Important information regarding all classes,
please read:

  • – Class requirements will be given on registration.
  • – A deposit must be paid to confirm a booking in a class.
  • – Full payment must be made before the first class
    (arrangements can be made for large projects).
  • – Refunds will be given only if a class is cancelled.
    (No refunds will be given for failure to attend a class).
  • – Students please bring your own machines in good working order.
  • – You can use a shop machine in class for a fee of $15.00.
  • – Please put your name on your scissors, pens, rulers etc.
  • – Make sure you put your class dates on your calendar.
  • – Private classes are available @ $55.00 per hour.

Michelle De Groot Classes

A. Wall Hanging class with Michelle De Groot

Textile artist – Michelle will be teaching this fabulous, fun class that incorporates fabric painting and thread painting. Michelle will have her own paints for you to use, so all you need is your machine and a few requirements which will be available at time of booking.

B. Janome Club

Melissa and/or Nathan from Janome will teach you how to get the most out of your Janome machine. Bring along your own machine to find out the things you have been curious about, or didn't know you could do!

Cathy from Bernina has some wonderful ideas and projects that will teach you more about your Bernina machine and how to use the accessories.

D. Brother – Scan N Cut Demo & Class

Carolyn from Brother will demonstrate the Scan N Cut and show you how to use the new products which make the Scan N Cut so exciting.

E. Janneke Classes

1. Pfaff Club

These classes will teach you all you need to know about your Pfaff machine while having fun with like-minded people.

Kit cost $10.00 – $15.00 per class

2. Chenille Pot Holder

This class will show you how to achieve the old fashion whole cloth chenille effect in a whole new way. You will also learn how to use a rotary chenille cutter.

Tuesday, February 14th (1st technique)    June 13th (2nd technique)
Time: 1.00pm – 3.30pm
Tuition: $35.00 per session
Kit cost $10.00 – $15.00 per class
Requirements:  Thread colour to be advised, ¼” or open toed foot & quilt guide.  Sharp scissors or chenille rotary cutter (if you have one).

3. Quilting Circle Technique class

Learn how to make a variety of circles for use on quilt tops.

Requirements:  Light grey thread & new 12/80 needle.  Freehand class.

4. Charity Quilt Group

We are looking forward to another year of making quilts for those in need, whilst having a good time. Over 40 quilts were made last year and were given to various charity groups who really appreciated them. Thanks again to all those who have participated.

5. Stack & Whack by Bethany S Reynolds

This class explains the method of layering & cutting triangles using multiple layers of fabric, thereby creating a variety of patterned circles from 8 of the triangles.

6. Tracey Sims' Moments in Time quilt

This is a good project for those who have an embroidery machine and would like a challenge in placement combined with patchwork. The centre panel of the quilt and a picture of the quilt are on show at the shop. This is a block of the month project, cost and requirements will be available at time of booking.

7. Appliqué Class

In this class we will use three Gingko leaf designs and make a table runner. Two of the panels can be used to make a bag.

1. Embroidered Tea Towel

This is an easy class to enter into machine embroidery and make some lovely, useful gifts to give to your friends.

2. Bunny Rug

Learn how to make this simple bunny rug using flannelette to create a shaggy quilt with appliquéd bunnies. Just in time for Easter or a perfect gift for a baby or toddler.

3. Basic Overlocker Class

Bring your overlocker along (in good working order) to learn all about caring for your overlocker, tensions and stitch settings

4. Zip Class

This is a really good class to discover quick techniques on how to insert invisible & standard zips. Great for beginners or advanced sewers.

5. Stretch Sewing

A great class to learn how to sew stretch fabric on your overlocker or sewing machine, we have a new range of cotton jersey in the shop, which is perfect for this easy to sew and easy to wear top.

6. Sit & Knit or Crochet

What a wonderful way to relax & learn something at the same time. Beginners can find out how to get started on a project. If you are more advanced come in with your knitting or crochet so you can work on your project in a friendly environment with help at hand when you get to the difficult part.

7. Overlocked food throw

Quick & easy overlocker project that will teach you normal overlocking and how to do a rolled hem.

G. Sewing with Denise

1. Panel Quilt

Using the panel of your choice, even a beginner can make this quick & easy quilt with fantastic results. Sizes will vary depending on the size of your panel.

2. Jelly Roll Quilt top

A fun, quick & easy quilt top to complete in a day. A great example of how your colour choice can change the entire look of the same quilt pattern.

H. Classes with Wendy Charles

1. Cream on Cream Trapunto Cushion

For those with some free machining experience. A feather pattern will be provided. The first session will cover the technique of trapunto & quilting the background.
Ample time between classes allows you to finish the background quilting before the second class, when the cushion will be completed with zip insertion & binding.

2. Border Fabric Quilt

(9 blocks plus border)
Just one piece of border fabric is needed to make all of the blocks in this lovely quilt. Contrast is provided by an optional 'peeper' and the quilt backing. You will learn how to complete the centre of the quilt so that you can confidently finish the project at home. You will also be shown how to add a peeper border, achieve a perfect mitre corner and complete the binding by machine. Piecing experience required. Sample on display in shop.
